Links

A collection of links that will help you source cavy related information

Australian National Cavy Council links:
The following links all come from the ANCC website. It is the main governing body of the fancy in Australia.

The Australian Standards for Exhibition Cavies
This is the standards by which cavies being shown in Australia are judged upon. The information in the standards can help newcomers to the fancy understand the differences between the breeds and also to some extent, what they should be looking for when purchasing new cavies.

The National Stud List
A list of all the stud-prefixes registered in Australia. The stud pre-fix goes before the name of any pedigree cavy born at your stud. The national stud list can be useful in checking that "registered breeders" are in fact registered. It can also help those wishing to register one choose their own stud pre-fix as you cannot have a pre-fix that is already in use. Click Here to read more about the use of stud prefixes.

New Varieties in Australia - How Do They Become Recognised
An article regarding the process of the Australian National Cavy Councils Standards Review Panel when considering the recognition of new breeds.

Other useful links:

Renaissance Cavies, Matt Gardiner and The Advanced Guide to Cavy Keeping
If you haven't familiarised yourself with this e-book, then I suggest you do. If you truly love your cavies and want to have the knowledge to provide them with the best care possible than this will be $25 well spent. Considered to be the cavy bible by many in the fancy, this e-book covers all aspects of owning, breeding, showing and caring for cavies in Australia. The first link will tell you more about the e-book and the second link is the actual web-shop link to purchase it.

The Australian National Cavy Fanciers Forum
A national forum for discussion of all things cavy related. You need to sign up and post an introductory post before you can access all areas of this forum.

Another Aussie blog by a QLD stud owner with lots of great information. It is easy to navigate and has shortcut links to the most informative pages at the top. The author, Emma, is also always happy to help newcomers to the fancy and answer their questions. Check out her FAQ's page first though, just in case your question has already been answered.

Jackies Guinea Piggies
This is a quirky website written and run by a pet owner but it does have some interesting insights into behavior and other facets of owning guinea pigs.

"The Responsible Breeder" by Serafina Cupido
An insightful and poignant article written by vet, rescuer, cavy breeder, shower and guardian Serafina Cupido. It covers topics including education, health, breeding, overpopulation, placement and responsibility.

As I have previously said, my best suggestion is to start the right way, with reputable information and grab Matt's e-book but if that isn't in the current budget, hopefully the other links will help provide the information you are after.
