Grass in particular is a favourite with guinea pigs. Everyone knows that. What about other leaves though?
I noted with interest a list that Matt Gardiner gives in his e-book (discussed in my blog post 'Duty Calls') that among other things included banana leaves as suitable cavy food. Well, I thought, I have banana leaves. So off to the banana tree I went, armed with a knife. I cut some nice looking leaves down, piled them into the pens and waited to see what would happen.

Abby was the first to come out and have a taste. |
Her happy noises soon drew Milly and Minnie out to have a try. |
While Zavier watched on with interest from the food bowl. |
Before long they were all enjoying their banana leaves, even Zavier. |
So the list I have, is as follows:
Suitable Leaves for Guinea Pigs to Eat
Banana
Mulberry
Mango
Pumpkin
Choko
Apple
Pear
Raspberry
Grape

Apparently leaves from trees that grow stone fruit are not advised as
they are toxic in large quantities. This morning I tried pumpkin leaves
but none of my piggies seemed very interested in them. I will check
later today and see whether they have been gobbled up or not. I am also
going to offer mulberry leaves as I know Tash has several trees growing
in her back yard.
Speaking of my partner in all things cavy related, Tash has started her own blogspot. You can follow her journey by clicking here We are going to share a stud pre-fix, which hopefully will be 'Kingdom'. Tash will have her 'Funky Kingdom Cavy Stud' whilst mine will be the 'Enchanted Kingdom Cavy Stud'. And of course, when we are blessed enough to have bred our own pedigree cavies, they will all have 'Kingdom' as the first part of their name (known as a "stud prefix.") Fingers crossed we won't have long to wait before we find out.
