It's official! The Cavy Kingdom's first pups have arrived. Two beautiful little darlings. I am going to double check their genders this evening and then decide on names. For now, I have some lovely photographs to share.

When I arrived at the hutch, mid-morning to check on Abby, I found this pair running around merrily. Abby has done a fantastic job they are clean and both weighed in just shy of 100g. The only evidence a birth had taken place was some slight red staining on one or two of the pet litter pellets in her bedding. She is already nursing them and I saw one of them try chewing a piece of lucerne chaff.

Its amazing how different this little pup looks from each side! Both pups have quite wavy hair like their father Zavier, who is a merino. It is very soft but also rather long for newborns, so I suspect and hope they may be lucky enough to get long coats.

This little one is also a tri-color but has more black throughout the coat. They are both incredibly calm and trusting. They sat so sweetly while I photographed them, showing virtually no fear in spite of the fact that my nearby roosters were crowing loudly.

Abby With Her Two New Pups |
Before tonight I will move them from their lawn hutch into a more protected indoor hutch as the weather is quite cool at the moment. After a week or so, they should be able to move back in with the other sows, who hopefully will like them, just as much as I do!
